Border Conflicts
Between Tibet and China
[ send
me this paper ]
This 8 page report discusses the basic issues - political,
economic, cultural - surrounding the border conflicts
between China and Tibet. Tibet is formally considered an
autonomous region of the People's Republic of China. Much
of the 20th century has involved conflict over that issue
and how and when Tibet will be 'freed.' In October, 1950,
little more than a year after the Communists gained full
control of mainland China, their troops invaded Tibet.
Now, nearly fifty years after the invasion, the Chinese
still maintain their authority by armed force. They have
redrawn the country's borders, incorporating huge swaths
of Tibetan territory into Chinese provinces. Bibliography
lists 8 sources.

Brazil and China

Brazil and China – A Case of Apples and Oranges?: This
5-page essay examines the cultural aspects of these two
countries with respect to the Western World, and how the
disparities can affect the way in which outsiders conduct
business in these nations. One is historically animated,
while the other is sublime. Invariably, this is a case of
“When in Rome, do as the Romans do --” and one
definitely needs to read the “handbook” on proper
decorum before attempting commerce with either.

Cambodian Women
and the Khmer Rouge
[ send
me this paper ]
This 7 page report discusses the genocide that took place
in Cambodia during the totalitarian regime of the Khmer
Rouge in 1975-1979. Various empirical studies reported
that Cambodian women experienced the most extensive
trauma. These women were victims of physical violence,
often of a sexual nature, perpetrated by their fellow
citizens. They were exposed to multiple forms of emotional
abuse, torture, and forced labor. Many witnessed the
deaths or executions of their husbands, and most lost at
least one, and often several, of their children. Extended
kinship networks, so much a part of their cultural
heritage and their everyday functioning, were destroyed.

Civil Unrest In
Indonesia: Ethnic And Religious Reasons
[ send
me this paper ]
14 pages in length. The riots and civil unrest in
Indonesia since the beginning of 1998 have been
interpreted as demonstrating the impossibility of
maintaining ethnic and religious harmony. The extent to
which the primary factors of civil unrest in Indonesia are
ethnic and religious are involved and widespread, with
much of the disharmony dating back to the annexation of
East Timor. Additionally, the issue of freedom as it
relates to ethnic and religious diversity appears to be
caught in a perpetual holding pattern, inasmuch as
Indonesians the quest for these freedoms will not come
without much battle and bloodshed. Bibliography lists 15
sources.
